Having been granted an audience with Barcelona's double winner Gerard Pique we were privy to some fascinating insights into how the Catalan giants stay ahead of the game. The world's most assured ball-playing centre-half proved as eloquent off the pitch as he is elegant on it.
"It seems absurd to me," Xavi told a news conference at Barca's training ground outside the Catalan capital on Wednesday. "I was only acting in the interest of Cesc and of Barça. But that's that and I really don't want to get into a war of words with Wenger. I didn't want to offend anyone."
"There is nothing else to discuss. The only thing left is for Real Madrid to pay up," his agent, Wagner Ribeiro, told Marca. "If they do, Santos have nothing to do apart from pick up their share of the transfer fee. Neymar just has to decide when to come (to Real Madrid) because he wants to play in the Club World Cup."
Speaking during Tottenham's pre-season tour of South Africa, Redknapp said: "The chairman has been speaking about it. I am not sure if it will happen. He is a name that has been mentioned, certainly. I spoke to the chairman about loaning the player and if we could work out a deal for him, I would like to bring him to the club."
Sevilla winger Diego Capel is set to join Sporting Lisbon, with the Spanish club looking at Tottenham’s Giovani Dos Santos as a replacement. Dos Santos is rated at around 10 million euros after impressing on loan at Racing Santander last season.
"I am very flattered by the welcome I have received from the fans," Gudjohnsen, a free agent, told a media conference in the Greek capital. "AEK Athens is a challenge for me, a different path in my career. I want to play a big part in the club's history. I don't like making promises but I will proudly wear the shirt. I have played for big clubs and I can cope with the pressure."
