FC Barcelona News: 11 August 2011; Fabregas Transfer Imminent, Busquets and Pique Injured

Can Barcelona even challenge Real Madrid without these two on the pitch?

Premier League - Arsenal 'to accept Cesc deal' - Yahoo! Eurosport
The Gunners remained steadfast in their demands over a £40 million fee for the club captain but with the European champions unwilling to improve significantly on their initial £27m offer, and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitting the player was unsettled, it now appears as if the club will have to broker a cut-price deal to move on.

Barcelona's Sergio Busquets & Gerard Pique doubtful for Real Madrid clash - Goal.com
Pique picked up a knock in the dying minutes of the first-half and was forced to leave the pitch due to the knock. Busquets, who replaced Pique, managed to stay on the pitch until the final whistle, but complained about a knee problem after the game. However, Spain's physio, Juan Cota, said to Sport that both players could feature if their injuries suffer no further ill-effects.

Spain's 2-1 defeat to Italy shows importance of Xavi and why Cesc Fabregas is seen as his ready-made replacement for Barcelona and La Roja - Goal.com
With Xavi beginning to feel the affects of a long and gruelling career, Spain need someone to step in right now. And so do Barcelona. That explains Guardiola's tireless pursuit of Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, which looks as if it may finally be bearing fruit. So should Cesc arrive after all at Camp Nou, Barca won't be the only beneficiary; Del Bosque will be rather pleased as well.

Silly season nearly over in Spain - Yahoo! Eurosport UK
With a lack of hard sports news to report, no Tour De France, Olympics, international football tournament or World Cup win to celebrate, the Spanish sports press have over-analysed the pre-season. They've also speculated for months whether Cesc Fabregas will be signing for Barca or Neymar for Madrid, with any slight indication treated as news.

Official: Alejandro Alfaro moves from Sevilla to Mallorca - Goal.com

Looks like you have to come up with another plan

If they are not ready by sunday, Barca are going to play Fontas!
Moving on to good news, is the Cesc deal for real?

hmm...

so… alves—-mascherano—-abidal—-adriano
                  Xavi—-keita—-Iniesta
                  Pedro—-Messi—-Villa
what say?

by Inder Methil on Aug 11, 2011 12:10 PM CEST up reply actions

I hate the idea of Keita as DM

Far too lazy, perhaps Xavi, Thiago and Iniesta in midfield, with no DM

nahh…pep wouldnt have played romeu against madrid…anyway…he will be back in a couple of years:D;)

by Inder Methil on Aug 11, 2011 1:25 PM CEST up reply actions

yes and no

Many threats like that before, they usually are averted by the last minute, and I think we would have enough to beat Malaga, we are just worried about getting our asses handed to us by Real!

And I wouldn’t mind seeing Oriol back if only for the next week :)

He was pretty awesome last night

I think the Premier League will be a far better fit for his tendency to get yellows…La Liga tends to be a little free with the cards in comparison.

by Stephen Schmidt on Aug 11, 2011 1:50 PM CEST up reply actions

Yeah it does

I much prefer watching the EPL for that sort of stuff. Games are far better across the league, and I think his passing ability could work out well in the games that get a little stretched. Sad to see Romeu go, but it’s best for the player, and each club.
