In the second of three Clasico-related Daily Polls, we ask who you think should start in midfield against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou on Sunday. Andres Iniesta or Cesc Fabregas?
Yesterday, we asked you whether or not you would risk Gerard Pique for Sunday's Clasico, and while that poll is still open to new voters, it's time to move on and ask another key selection-related Clasico issue: who should start in midfield against Los Blancos: the in-form Cesc Fabregas, or the Best Player in Europe, Andres Iniesta? Both have a history of making crucial contributions both in the big matches in general and specifically in El Clasico, so it's hard to separate the pair in that respect. After all, Iniesta dominated the first-leg of the Spanish Supercopa, whereas Cesc scored in last season's 3-1 league victory and played a part in the winner of last season's Supercopa.
Therefore, Tito Vilanova will have to look at what each player brings to the team that the other cannot; and potentially whether or not they can both play at the same time. In that sense, it's clear what Iniesta brings to the team. His passing is superb, he creates a lot of chances, can dribble past defenders and perhaps most importantly of all, always plays well. Injury or no injury, Iniesta steps up every time he takes the field, and if he is selected, you know he will deliver. On the other hand, Fabregas is the better finisher - both inside and outside the area - provides physicality (more so than Iniesta anyway) and contributes a lot defensively. It's a tough choice, but who would you chose to partner Xavi in midfield? Or would you play them both, with one presumably taking a place in attack - if so, who would move upfront, and what position would you like them to fill? After all, it was the duo that won the World Cup for Spain in 2010, so surely it could win Barcelona a Clasico?
And if you haven't already, you can also vote in yesterday's poll - should Barcelona risk it all and start Gerard Pique in the centre of defense?
