Day One of the UEFA EURO 2012 is behind us and what an exciting day it was. In the opener Greece fell a decent penalty shot short of completing a comeback against the hosts, Poland, despite playing a large part of the game with 10 men. The game ended in a one-all draw, with Lewandowski scoring the first goal of the EURO for Poland and Salpigidis scoring for Greece.
The second game of Day One featured Russia and Czech Republic. I expected this to be a low scoring, hard fought game but it was anything but as Russia ran away in this one. Dzagoev (twice), Shirokov and Pavlyuchenko scored for Russia while the Czech's only managed to get one past Malafeev, courtesy of Pilař.

Day Two brings us matches from Group B also known as the Group of Death. The first game will be played between Netherlands and Denmark (6pm CET) while in the second Germany will square off against Portugal (8:45pm CET). Both games have the potential to be highly entertaining and high scoring. If I were a betting man I would put my money on the Dutch and the Germans but this is football and anything can happen.
Today we might see the first Barcelona player in action at the EURO, Ibrahim Afellay. Judging by the two international friendlies played prior the EURO Afellay should be in the starting eleven, but we will have to wait and see who Bert van Marwijk picked to start Netherlands' first EURO 2012 game.
Enjoy!
