1st – Thiago Alcântara – 63%
Unquestionably 2011/12 will go down as Thiago’s breakthrough season with the club. Voted unanimous winner by the Barca Blaugrana community, Thiago started brightly with a tremendous pre-season where he scored goals against Manchester United and Bayern Munich thus earning himself a call-up to the Spanish national team and a debut against his country of birth – Italy. All this despite the transfer of Cesc Fàbregas whom many expected would interfere with Thiago’s development. Admittedly, he didn’t contribute many goals or assists, but never once did he look out of place in the Blaugrana midfield and I struggle to recall him putting in a poor performance. Thiago is confident in his own abilities, but is willing to put in the hard yards as well; being ruled out of the Copa del Rey final and the Olympics was a cruel blow, but here’s hoping that with Thiago in the side, Barcelona will be pushing for trophies for years to come.
