Victor Valdes: Overrated, underrated?

As many of you probably just watched in horror, Victor had a little mistake that could potentially cost them the Supercopa in the second leg. To say that was an error or mistake would be too kind; keepers at all levels should know that if someone is rushing you, someone who you know is fast, you shouldn't play with the ball in front of the net. Hopefully he stops making these mistakes as we need him to be 100% focused if Barca is to win anything this season.

So now to the question; is Victor Valdes overrated? Many times have people said that Victor was one of the best in the world. I could agree, but there is a reason that he is 3rd in the pecking order after Iker Casillas and Pepe Reina. Yes, he has won the Zamora trophy for the past 4? consecutive seasons, but it was more down to having less shots on goal. Last season, he still won the Zamora but if I'm not mistaken he saved a lower percentage of the shots taken on goal. While Barca's defense was shaky at best last season, it was still one of the best, and in previous seasons even better.

The biggest defense that people come up with is that VV is the best keeper that is comfortable on the ball and can distribute. Well, we've seen that he is not entirely comfortable on the ball and is prone to making mistakes (3-1 Clasico anybody?) Also, I have watched Neuer and Casillas play the ball out to the wingbacks or to a player in the middle, which is something Barca does almost every time, but no one considers them to be good at distributing the ball. If Neuer, Lloris, Iker, Buffon etc had been brought up through the Barca system and played for Barcelona, they would most likely be equally adept at distributing the ball.

So what does everybody else think? Obviously he is here to stay so we will have to deal with all his potential mistakes, but does anybody else think he is a little overrated?
