Last night, Andrés Iniesta walked away as the winner of the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award, and almost immediately some fans and indeed some sections of the media, voiced their surprise and confusion. For whatever reason, they believed that Iniesta’s achievements were seemingly irrelevant in the face of the masses and masses of goals scored by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo."Take Ronaldo and Messi out of their teams and we will see if the team is still successful!" was a popular argument, although take Iniesta out of the summer’s European Championship winning Spain side, and I’m certain that the result would have been different.
So, in light of Iniesta’s win, today’s poll asks whether or not you feel Andrés’ win was deserved or not. There are three options: the self-explanatory "yes" and "no", and the slightly more diplomatic answer of "they all deserved to win". Depending on which way you vote, feel free to leave a comment below explaining your choice!
Note: Somewhat unsurprisingly, 73% of people favoured the five-point lead in yesterday's poll, as compared to 27% who would have preferred to win the Supercopa, even if it meant being level on points with Real Madrid.
