The Primera Division leaders will have to make do without the services of their first-choice goalkeeper for a number of weeks. Barcelona have announced on their official website that Victor Valdes has been handed a four-match suspension following his dismissal in Saturday's 2-1 La Liga loss away against Real Madrid.

After two days off, the FC Barcelona first team was back at work on Tuesday morning on pitch 1 at the Ciutat Esportiva. There were 20 first team players available, while Xavi Hernández did physiotherapy as he recovers from a hamstring injury and Pedro and Dos Santos, who both have colds, worked out in the gym.

The team will travel to China on August 3, Thailand on August 7, and Malaysia on August 10, where they will play against three teams that have yet to be announced. Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria faces tests later today to determine the extent of a suspected hamstring injury suffered against Manchester United. The Argentine was forced out of the Champions League Last 16 second leg before half-time complaining of discomfort in his left leg.

"Atletico Madrid and Diego Pablo Simeone have reached an agreement on the coach's contract extension for the next four seasons," the La Liga club said in a statement on their website (www.clubatleticodemadrid.com) on Tuesday.Argentine Simeone, who will be 43 next month, took over after the sacking of Gregorio Manzano midway through last season and promptly led the side to Europa League glory with victory over Spanish rivals Athletic Bilbao in the final.
