Barca interest in Cuadrado thwarts MU bid

Friday July 26th was Fiorentina's supposed deadline for a decision regarding Juan Cuadrado. ManU had tilted the entire transfer market upside down with a reported 28 million pound offer hoping to simply put this issue to rest. However, the Friday deadline came and went and now we hear that the Cuadrado issue isn't a settled matter because Barca has new terms for Fiorentina to consider.

Cuadrado is an amazing talent and his style fits Barca perfectly. He appears to be best suited as a winger and for Barca traditionally that would be their right and left backs. But, with a new coach, who knows where Cuadrado would line up. Regardless, left and right back positions at Barca are currently occupied by Alba and Alves. Cuadrado is better on the right side so if Barca were to bring in Cuadrado that makes Alves expendable, especially with Montoya as a decent backup.

Further, Barca has apparently made the decision that Afellay and Song are expendable and the word is that Zubi is trying to work out deals for both. Consequently, how could Fiorentina do better than to get Afellay, Song and Alves as part of a deal for Cuadrado? Afellay, Song and Alves would instantly make Fiorentina a better squad and the loss of those three is pretty much inconsequential to Barca, excepting Alves. But, if you get Cuadrado as a replacement for Alves then this is a win-win for both teams.

I'm not saying those are the terms Barca has offered Fiorentina but it sure makes sense.
