Should Luis Suarez's ban be suspended?

Luis Suarez signed with FC Barcelona earlier in July.On 11 July,Barcelona announced on their website that they reached an agreement over the transfer of Luis Suarez.Suarez wanted to come to Barcelona even from the time he was at Ajax and has always dreamt of playing here.Part of the reason is that his wife lives in Barcelona too.Luis Suarez is a flawed genius and his move to Barcelona drew comparisons with another legendary Barcelona forward signing Hristo Stoichkov. It is seen as a match made in heaven especially because after an unsuccessful season here at Barcelona ,Luis Suarez is expected to bring trophies to Barcelona once again fueled by his determination, grit ,intensity, talent and hardwork.

It is worth noticing that the moment Luis Enrique, new manager of Barcelona signed with Barcelona ,he asked Sporting Director Zubizarreta that if he can sign Luis Suarez. For me Barcelona needed a true 9 as much as it needed a CB.Yet after signing a player who is without a doubt the best no. 9 in the world at present and was much needed FC Barcelona was vilified by fans and media alike for signing Luis Suarez as his signing was considered against the club's motto and the values it represented.Arguments can be made for both sides. But the reality is that Luis Suarez is now a Barcelona player.

The reason why Barcelona was being vilified was that Suarez bit Chiellini when Uruguay met Italy at 2014 world cup's Group Stage.Suarez was punished(deservedly). He received a 4 month ban from football and was banned from any football related activity.Since than football players,ex-players and fans all are divided on whether the length of ban was correct or not.Though it should be mentioned at this point that Suarez did apologized publicly and Chiellini himself came out and asked for his ban to be refused.

Barcelona has filed an appeal at CAS in the hope that Suarez ban will be reduced or at the least he will be allowed to train with the team. And Suarez has been called by CAS on 8th August.

There should be no doubt as to whether he deserved the ban or not.Because it was the third time he bit someone on field. But there also should be no doubt as to whether the punishment was harsh or not because it was very harsh and the decision by FIFA was influenced a lot by media too.Lately I have found a lot of people(Especially Madrid fans) on the internet crying conspiracy as it is looking likely that Suarez's ban will be reduced.

Yes Suarez bit a player and it was childish but how is that worse in comparison to the challenge(foul) by Zuniga on Neymar which ended Brazil's hope at the 2014 world cup and injured Neymar for supposedly 2 months,Infact the foul was so serious that had it been some inches above it would have paralyzed Neymar for his entire life .How the bite is worse than a foul by Matuidi which broke all ligaments of Ogenyi Onazi's foot at 2014 FIFA world cup match up between France and Nigeria. In both the cases Zuniga and Matuidi were not given any punishment. And the sad part is that in both cases both player's don't appear to be going for the ball and it is even more clear in Zuniga's case especially.

Which brings me to the point that how could a bite be more harmful than fouls which had even more lasting repercussions. Now let us also see the following case.

Against Athletic Bilbao Ronaldo scratched two player's faces and then tried to punch Iturraspe(who was one of the player's he scratched too). Why didn't Ronaldo got a ban like Suarez.Just because the foul was in a different competition shouldn't make it less worse.Neither a bite is harmful nor a Scratch (by nails). And both are childish acts.It is to be noted that infact it is a scratch which will leave you a scar and not a bite.People defending Ronaldo will point out that Suarez's incident was his third but it is also to be noted that this wasn't Ronaldo's only incident either.During the 4-3 El Clasico earlier this year Ronaldo appeared to be swinging arm at Barcelona's player Mascherano intentionally.

Here again (at the very last in the video at about 3.20) he appears to be swinging a leg at opposition's player. My point being that Ronaldo has time and again come up with his fair share of madness too but those are rarely talked about. Is scratching, punching and kicking a player intentionally not worse than a bite.Than why not Suarez's ban be reduced too and even if it is going to be reduced than why so much noise about it and so much conspiracy theories for it .

In no ways I want to generalize all Madridistas ,when I am saying that Madrid fans are crying against his ban to be reduced and in no way I only mean to include Madrid fans but also every other club fan.Because almost every club witnesses a player with some madness and the people who are vilifying Suarez have no right to act saintly.Sure he deserves criticism but what is wrong is that people acting saintly.I have found pundits at ESPN calling for a life long ban for Suarez.Every club has/had some madmen.Chelsea have Terry,Atletico Madrid had Simeone.Manchester United had Cantona.Real Madrid have Ronaldo,Pepe,Sergio Ramos and they also had Zidane etc.

Infact Suarez's received ban when he was Liverpool player and this brings me to my next point that even if CAS decides to keep his ban it should only be limited to International games because Suarez's club shouldn't be punished. And this applies even if he had been Liverpool's player.Suarez's problem is more psychological and he should be recommended the help of a psychologist by CAS.Upholding his ban is only going to deepen his problem and I reckon he has suffered enough after seeing his Country crash out of the world cup (read: with him suspended) and him being criticized in every section of media.Funny enough,Luis Enrique, newly appointed manager of Barcelona has brought a psychologist with him in his staff .Perhaps Suarez and Barcelona are indeed a match made in heaven.

So folks vote and share your views on Luis Suarez's ban and should it be suspended/upheld/reduced and why in comment section.
