Lionel Messi leads Argentina past Brazil 1-0 in injury time

Argentina defeated Brazil 1-0 in Qatar earlier today thanks to a injury-time goal from non other than FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi. Messi nearly notched a wonder-goal in the first half but his long range strike grazed the bar and missed. Despite being a friendly match between the two South American sides it was an intense fixture and Messi will extra enjoy this goal as it gives him his first win against Brazil. With the announcement of the 2022 World Cup venue just a few weeks away Qatar was happy to find itself hosting such a high profile match. Qatar finds itself bidding against the USA, Australia, South Korea, and Japan to host the worlds biggest sports event in the world in 12 years time. The official announcement will come on December 2. Javier Mascherano featured for Argentina as well although he has struggled for minutes at Barcelona since his arrival at the Camp Nou earlier this year.

Barca's Dani Alves featured in the Brazilian side and nearly scored in the first half as his well-struck volley struck the crossbar and came back into play. It ended up being Brazil's best chance on the day.
