Barca Bla Bla Stinker of the Week: Re-Entry Gareth Bale (is as good as Lionel Messi)

Although the Barca Bla Bla section is a fairly new we already featured our fair share of ridiculous and sometimes idiotic individuals. But just when you think it can’t get any more stupid we are gifted or rather forced to bear the stupidity of an individual or rumor. This week marks the re-entry of the first inaugural Stinker of the Week, Gareth Bale.

It appears as if the UK-based press as well as the pundits are, by default, programmed to champion one of their own as the world’s best. And since superstar striker/white Pele Wayne Rooney isn’t producing the goods – my bad, goals – another UK-based player must be hyped as the next best thing since….Waaza himself.

As it has been the case in recent weeks the honor befalls to none other than Gareth Bale. This week Wales caretaker boss Brian Flynn made the serious claim that Gareth Bale -out of all players on the face of the earth- can be as good as Lionel Messi.

Dear Mr. Flynn,

Are you high? I mean seriously, how can you keep a straight face after making such a proclamation? Whatever it is Mr. Flynn, I want some. I assume even Pablo Escobar couldn’t get his hands on that stuff if he was still around.

There’s a fine line between making a prediction and being delusional and you are definitely on the wrong side of that very line.

Lionel Messi is by all accounts a once-in-a-generation footballer. How dare you to compare Gareth Bale to La Pulga?!? Even before Messi was 20 he already scored a hat-trick against Real Madrid. How old is Bale? 21.

Messi tormented a host of genuine European big clubs and therefore defenders with just as big reputations. Didn’t Bale struggle against Bolton, Blackburn or whatever club?!? One or even two freak games don’t make him a world-beater and certainly not a player of Messi’s caliber.

Even Emanuel Adebayor managed to crack the 30-goal mark exactly once. Does that make him an equal to Thierry Henry? To the owners of Manchester City maybe.

Before he can even begin to think of himself to be as good as Messi there is a host of genuine world-class players before him: Andres Iniesta, Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Wesley Sneijder, David Villa, David Silva and Messi’s rival Cristiano Ronaldo among others.

What is wrong with you? Bale as good as Messi??? What’s next, Wales will become World Champions??? Please for the sake of your reputation stop making such clalims.

However your stupidity amused us enough to unanimously crown you the Barca Bla Bla Stinker of the Week.
