I would just like to mention that I wrote this before he withdrew his transfer request and before the game versus Espanyol.
Last weekend, Carlos Tevez stunned the football world by submitting a written transfer request to his current employers Manchester City. I for one was shocked by this, as there appeared to be no valid reasons that Tevez could be unhappy in Manchester.
Then I remembered that no-one really wants to live in the City of Manchester. Maybe Tevez would prefer a sunnier climate.
Maybe he would prefer Barcelona.
Think about it for a second.
A front three compromised of Messi, his compatriot Tevez, and one of the best Spanish forwards, David Villa. Behind them, Iniesta, Xavi and Busquets or Argentina captain Mascherano. On the bench, Pedro, Bojan, Keita et al.
The attacking power of this team would be unparalleled.
Carlos Tevez could be the replacement for Eto’o, snapping and snarling at the opposition defenders to regain possession. The Cameroonian’s work-rate is the only thing Barca have lacked, when compared to the all-conquering side of 08/09.
To be fair though, Tevez is not as prolific, but his goal-ratio is still nothing to sniff at. He would also instantly blend-in with La Pulga, something you must do quickly to succeed in Barcelona.
A transfer like this would also enable Guardiola to rotate his forwards which would prevent over-exhaustion. One game he could play Villa, Tevez and Messi, and the next he could rotate in Pedro or Bojan.
I’m sure you get the picture.
Then again, this is all wishful thinking. Given the well-publicised problem of fiscal problems of FC Barcelona, the board may find it difficult to justify spending money to strengthen an already world-class front line.
Though I can’t remember the last time there wasn’t a marquee signing at the start of the season.
Maybe we could use Ibrahimovic – who if you believe some reports will be returning to Barca at the end of his loan deal – as a bargaining chip. Maybe we could propose a swap deal between the two!
Who knows, maybe Mancini wants to be reunited with another of his over-pampered mega-egos – sorry stars – and is willing to trade the disgruntled Tevez to do so!
