Barca president Sandro Rossell made the verbal offer to Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis. But the bid from the European champions was immediately rejected. Barca - having ended the phoney war - are now ready to increase their bid to £30m.

Eric Abidal wants to stay and retire at Barcelona - agent | Goal
The France international has only one more year to run on his contract with Barcelona, but has already been offered a two-year extension by the club. Venditelli has declared his charge is hoping to retire at Barcelona, telling TV3: "His wish is to continue at Barcelona and end his career as a Barca player."

Promising young defender Martin Montoya has revealed that he is eager to remain at Spanish champions Barcelona, despite the interest of several other clubs. The right-back has recently been linked with the likes of Roma, Valencia and Getafe, but has no intention of leaving Camp Nou.

Manchester City will face Barcelona in the headline fixture of a Champions League-style tournament for Under 19s this season. Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa are also in the tournament, dubbed the NextGen Series, which will consist of 16 clubs in four groups. City have also been paired with Celtic and Marseille.

Altintop to have back surgery | ESPN
Turkey international Altintop joined Jose Mourinho's side on a four-year deal last month from Bayern Munich, although his appearances for the German club were limited last season as he struggled for fitness. The club announced in an official statement that the problem was diagnosed as the player was suffering discomfort and making little progress in his recovery.

Malaga sign Sanchez from Sevilla | Eurosport
Malaga have added defender Sergio Sanchez to their ranks in a three million euro deal from Sevilla. Sanchez, 25, can play at right-back or in the centre of defence but failed to make an impact at the Andalusian club since joining from Espanyol in 2009.

Official: Malaga sign Valencia winger Joaquin for €4m | Goal
Malaga have announced they have completed the signing of Valencia winger Joaquin for a fee of €4 million. The Spain international has signed a three-year contract which will keep him at the club until June 2014. The announcement of Joaquin's signing comes on the same day as Malaga formally presented Jeremy Toulalan, the most expensive transfer in the history of the club at €10m.
