Despite being featured in numerous transfer rumors Thiago Alcantara will sign a contract extension this afternoon that will extend his stay at the Camp Nou until 2015. His buyout clause has been raised from €30 million to €90 million.
Thiago is the latest star to come through La Masia's ranks. Countless Culés around the world have been expressing their opinion that Cesc Fabregas is not needed in Barcelona as the team already has a player of his qualities on the roster. Thiago made his Barcelona debut on 17 May 2009, at the age of 18, but has only last season seen his playing time increase with the first team.
Thiago also had a terrific U-21 European Championship campaign. He led Spain all the way to the final where he scored from 40 yards to seal the Championship Trophy. Thiago was also named Man of the Match of two games including the final.
The improved contract should put all the rumors of the youngster going to England to rest. This also means Thiago will be promoted to the first team when the season starts.
