We all knew it was coming, especially now Alexis Sanchez has been signed, but Barcelona have just made it official, Bojan Krkic has been sold to AS Roma, where he will team-up with former Barca B coach, Luis Enrique.
The fee is set at €12 million, with an obligatory buy-back clause in place for 2013. However, Roma can block this buy-back clause, but only if they pay a further €28 million, bringing the total fee to €40 million, a little more than the total fee for Alexis Sanchez.
This is a great piece of business for the Blaugrana, as Bojan is not worth more than Alexis Sanchez, yet there is a possibility that he will cost Roma more than Barca did for Sanchez. If they don’t, Barcelona will have signed Bojan back, and he will have gotten some match practice out of it too!
A good move for both player, and club, it looks like a loan, but is infinitely better for the balance book. I will miss Bojan, but wish him all the best, knowing that if he succeeds, Barca get a fair price for him, and if not, he will be back as a better player.
It is also worth noting that Roma are not the richest club, so even if he proves to be a revelation in Italy, there is a chance that Roma will not be able to afford the extra €28 million, and he will return to Catalonia.
So, goodbye Bojan, good luck, and we hope to see you back in 2013!
