Andreu Fontas, FC Barcelona's central defender, has been loaned to RCD Mallorca until the end of the season. Mallorca were allowed to make the transfer because Joao Victor ruptured cruciate ligaments in his right knee at the 15 minute mark of the Islanders' 2-1 defeat to Granada. The midfielder has been ruled out for 6-7 months which constitutes as a "long-term injury" and allowed Mallorca to make a transfer outside of the transfer period. Fontas will now travel to Mallorca to take a medical check-up before completing the loan deal.

Fontas joined Barcelona's youth ranks as an 18-year old and played for Barcelona B for three seasons before officially joining the first team at the start of the 2011-12 season. Fontas made 72 appearances and scored two goals for the B team. Since his first team debut in 2009 Fontas has made 16 appearances for Blaugrana and scored one goal.

Fontas is most comfortable playing in the heart of the defense, but can also play as a defensive midfielder.

For quite some time it appeared Jonathan Dos Santos will be playing at the Iberostar Stadium until the end of the 2012-13 season, but the Mexican rejected the offer and will stay in Barcelona to fight for a place in the already crowded midfield.
