Despite the fact that Barcelona won the Champions League against SL Benfica by the score of 2-0 the mood in the Blaugrana world is largely disappointing. In the 77th minute Barça had a corner kick and Carles Puyol, who just made his comeback today from his previous injury, was left face down in agony. Puyol rose incredibly high to connect with the corner kick, but he crashed into a Benfica defender which upended the captain and sent him flying through the air. Puyol landed hard on his left arm/shoulder, with no option of protecting himself before the landing.

Immediately it was obvious that Puyol was seriously injured, it was just a question of how serious it really was. The image said a lot, and even though there are pictures of the injury available I will make a decision here not share it. It's for your own good really.

After receiving treatment on the pitch Puyol was carted off and underwent further examination. It was determined that Puyol suffered a dislocated elbow. Without knowing if there is any damage to the ligaments it is impossible to know how long Puyol will be on the sidelines. The official recovery time should be known sometime tomorrow after Puyol is examined in Barcelona by a doctor who treats a lot of motorcycle racers.
