Doctors Ramon Cugat and Ricard Pruna, in collaboration with Egarsat, performed osteochondral knee surgery on Carles Puyol this Saturday morning. The Azulgrana captain underwent an arthroscopic procedure to clean up joint tissue in his right knee. The player will be out of action for approximately six weeks.

His absence will likely mean that Del Bosque deploys Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos alongside Barca's Gerard Pique in central defence, with Javi Martinez of Athletic Bilbao another option. Victor Valdes has won this season's Ricardo Zamora trophy after being crowned the goalkeeper with the best goals-to-games ratio in La Liga. The Barcelona shot-stopper conceded just 28 league goals throughout 2011-12, despite seeing the ball evade him twice in the 2-2 draw with Real Betis on Saturday, to net himself his fourth straight personal triumph.

After the game against Betis, the Barça players concur that the team will be completely focused on the last match of the season. Víctor Valdés said that the team is eager and preparing for the final match of the year and he sent an optimistic message regarding next season. "We hope to win the Cup. This season two important titles have slipped away, but we’ll be back as strong as ever next year," he said.
