With just two award winners left to reveal, we are reaching the end of this season’s Barca Blaugranes Awards. This seems as good a time as ever to thank everyone who voted in each category. The "turnout" has been fantastic, so thanks for taking the time to read the articles! The penultimate category is to honour the Best Team Performance of 2011/12, and with five such brilliant nominations, you may (or may not) be surprised to know that we have a landslide winner. As voted for by you, the Best Team Performance of 2011/12 is...
1st – El Clasico – 3-1 vs Real Madrid – 56%
While the Copa del Rey victory was a fine way to end the season, the Osasuna match was the most unusual (scoreline-wise), and the Santos and Valencia victories were arguably the most complete, how can any of them come close to matching the elation of the December Clasico win? If there is anything more satisfying than winning against Real Madrid, it’s coming from behind to win against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu! Karim Benzema’s early goal was devastating at the time, but with hindsight it just made the performance in the following 89 minutes that little bit better. Alexis Sanchez equalised with a typically composed finish on the half-hour mark, before Xavi put the Blaugrana ahead, courtesy of a rather fortuitous bounce. Cesc Fàbregas doubled the advantage on 66 minutes, and from that point onwards Barcelona didn’t just beat Real Madrid, they threatened to humiliate them. The season didn’t end on the same note, but Barcelona produced a Champions performance that night; a worthy winner for best team performance.
