The big news coming out of Barcelona today centres around Javier Mascherano, who is set to sign a new contract after establishing himself as an important member of the first team over the past season. Mascherano is also in the news for his quotes on Argentina trying to replicate Barcelona, and for also stating that he wishes to continue at centre-back for the Blaugrana in the same interview. However, the biggest news of the past 24 hours (and perhaps of the summer) is that PSG have completed the signing of Thiago Silva from AC Milan. Suddenly, I'm not looking forward to that particular friendly any more...
The 28-year-old's agent, Walter Tamer, reportedly received positive signs from sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta during a first meeting in May, and was told that everything would be sorted out before the start of the new campaign. According to the publication, Mascherano will add two years onto his contract with the Blaugrana, which presently expires in 2014.
