FC Barcelona News: 11 January 2013; Barça Advance to Next Round of Copa del Rey, Sergi Roberto Out for One Month

Barça will be going back to Andalusia in the next round of the Copa del Rey. After a comfortable win on Thursday night against Cordoba they have qualified for the last eight in emphatic style. That means they’ll be meeting Malaga three times in a fortnight, once in La Liga and twice in the cup.

"We were very intense, we played at a very high level. We need to commend the players on their ambition," said Jordi Roura after this evening’s Copa del Rey match against Córdoba (5-0). The assistant manager, who filled in for Tito Vilanova this Thursday, admitted that he has hoped to send Messi in at some point during the game, but Sergi Roberto’s injury hampered his plans.

This Thursday, the Chilean was reacquainted with his goalscoring form. Apart from his traditional runs into space and tireless defensive work up top, the Blaugrana scored two of his team's five goals.

Sergi Roberto out of action for four weeks | FC Barcelona
Sergi Roberto had to abandon the pitch on 51 minutes after picking up an injury. The Club’s Medical Services confirmed that the player has suffered a tear in his left hamstring. Sergi Roberto will be out of action for four weeks, meaning he’ll miss Barça B’s matches against Xerez, Almería, Real Madrid Castilla and Sabadell.

The two Madrid sides are understood, as rivals, to have an unwritten agreement between the Presidents not to transfer players between each other, particularly those of Spanish nationality.

Bolton midfielder Martin Petrov could be on his way to Espanyol, if reports in the Spanish media are to believed. Several media outlets have confirmed that the Bulgaria international has been spotted in Barcelona, with a possible move to the Periquitos on the cards.

Deportivo la Coruna seek financial protection - ESPN FC
Deportivo la Coruna have become the latest La Liga club to seek protection from its creditors using Spain's 'Ley Concursal'. The Galicians, currently approximately €99 million in debt, and struggling in 19th place in the Primera Division, announced confirmation of the move via the club website on Thursday afternoon.
