Revisiting Eric Abidal's Greatest Moments At FC Barcelona

Eric Abidal announced yesterday that he will be leaving the club this summer after six years of loyal service, so let's relive some of Abidal's greatest moments in a Blaugrana shirt

In an emotional press conference yesterday afternoon, FC Barcelona and Eric Abidal announced that their six year partnership was coming to an end. At the expiry of his contract in June, Abidal will leave the club on a free transfer to seek out first-team football, which the Blaugrana were not willing (or able) to offer. After all that Abidal has been through with the club, and vice versa, it was a rather disappointing end to what has been a sensational career at the club for Abidal – although the Frenchman has received an offer from the club to return in the future as the Technical Director of Barcelona’s Football Academies, which are situated all across the globe. Thankfully, Abidal could end his tenure with the club on the field on Saturday evening, possibly as a late substitute against Malaga – which would be fitting considering the support that Abidal has received from Culés during his time with the club.

And even when you take his health issues into consideration, Abidal earned the support of the crowds long ago, with a string of admirable performances – and a whole host of fantastic moments. As he embarks on what should be the final chapter of his awe-inspiring career, I think I speak for everyone when I say: Good luck Abidal, and thanks for the memories.
