WINNER – Lionel Messi vs AC Milan – 47%
Another day, another Barça Blaugranes award for Lionel Messi, who managed to secure the Best Team Goal award for the second season in succession with this strike against AC Milan. Admittedly, this team goal was no-where near as spectacular as Messi’s goal against Villarreal last season, but it was a lot more memorable; do you even remember that particular strike versus Villarreal, and what was so special about it?
This goal on the other hand will be remembered for years to come as the catalyst in an epic performance; a superb comeback from an amazing, title-winning team. This was Barcelona at their best, working the ball around at pace, completing that extra pass, making that extra run; playing the opposition off the park.
A worthy winner indeed.
RUNNER-UP – Lionel Messi vs Real Betis – 14%
Messi also claimed the runners-up prize, finishing off this excellent team goal which involved both Andrés Iniesta and Alexis Sánchez. Personally, I prefer this goal to the one he scored against Milan, although in retrospect, it simply wasn’t as important. A fleeting moment of brilliance, but nothing extra-ordinary; for this was a work of art that probably never would have seen the light of day, if the circumstances, both in the match and the title race as a whole, were any different.
BEST OF THE REST – Andrés Iniesta vs Celtic – 13%
Messi, Xavi and Iniesta; Barcelona’s very own Holy Trinity combined to create this goal of biblical proportions against Celtic, scything their way through a disciplined defense almost at will.
