It may have been less than two months ago, but it feels like an eternity since Barcelona last took to the field in their final La Liga fixture of the season against Malaga CF. Looking back, that match now takes on a little extra importance; not only was it the final match of Eric Abidal's career with FC Barcelona, and not only did a victory help the Blaugrana reach 100 points for the first time in their history, but it was also the final match of the Tito Vilanova era. An era that begun in celebratory fashion with a 5-1 win over Real Sociedad also ended with a "bang", as Barca ran out 4-1 winners against the UEFA Champions League quarter-finalists.
In spite of the 7-0 aggregate drubbing against Bayern Munich, it was a successful season for FC Barcelona.
And the odds are that this season will be another successful year for the Blaugrana too; even under a new coach, Barcelona will be tipped for greatness -- after all, who would bet against a team featuring the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Andres Iniesta? With the exception of Bayern Munich, Barcelona arguably boast the best squad in World Football, and even if they don't ultimately succeed, we will at least know that they've given it their best shot.
Like tonight for instance; Barcelona are huge underdogs, but we know that they will at least attempt to compete with their hosts, and this is football -- anything can happen. Will Barcelona win? Will they even manage a draw? Who knows, and who cares? This is only a friendly after all...
