Thiago Silva’s agent, Paulo Tonietto has admitted in an interview with Catalan radio station SER that his client would be very much interested in a move to FC Barcelona amidst fresh reports from Catalunya, which suggest that the Blaugrana are preparing an €32 million opening bid for the Confederations Cup winning captain. Speaking on behalf of Silva on ‘La Graderia’, a programme on SER, Tonietto referred to Barcelona as the “best club in the world” and admitted that it would very difficult to say no to any offer from Barça. However, Tonietto went onto to clarify that Silva’s future is still in the hands of his current employers, Paris Saint-Germain.
This rather frank admission comes as another Catalan radio station – the aptly named, ‘Catalunya Radio’ – reported that Barcelona are preparing a €32 million bid for the Brazilian centre-half. As of yet, there is no indication as to whether the report is genuine or not – but it comes on the heels of comments from Barcelona director Toni Freixa, who clarified that Barça are in a position to make “another major signing”. Clearly Barcelona’s interest was established as genuine long ago, and these latest comments from Thiago Silva’s agent seem to indicate that the feeling is mutual – placing the pressure on Paris Saint-Germain to finally negotiate with Barcelona.
It may have taken the best part of two years – or perhaps even longer if reports from Diario Sport are to be believed – but it appears as though Barcelona and Tito Vilanova are edging ever closer to getting their man.
