A report in the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper claims the Brazilian striker was discharged from Rio de Janeiro’s Sao Vicente clinic on Sunday after it was previously assumed he would leave on Saturday. However, head of surgery Augusto Cesar Lima, who is also a member of the Brazilian Football Confederation’s medical team, preferred him to remain hospitalised and under observation for a further 24 hours.

Club doctor Daniel Medina has worked out a plan to get the Brazilian youngster fighting fit for his first day at the club, with the priorities being rest and trying to put on some weight, reports Marca. Barca’s medical staff estimate he needs to put on between three and five kilos, although the first thing the 21-year-old must do is recover over the next 10 days from having his tonsils out as well as a reconstruction of his nasal septum.

The 2012/13 season ended with the game against Malaga on June 1st and next week – Monday July 15th – the squad will be back at the Ciutat Esportiva in Sant Joan Despí for medical tests. Once the opening day medical tests have been done, the squad will begin training on 16th , with those players who have been involved in international games coming back as the pre-season progresses.
