FC Barcelona News: 27 September 2013; Martino's Barca Close in on Another Record, Villarreal Still Unbeaten

One win short of best ever league start | FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona is the first team to have ever won the first six games of a league season two years in a row. Under Tito Vilanova, FCB were one game away from making it to seven in a row last season, but were held by Real Madrid at Camp Nou to a 2-2 draw. On Saturday against Almeria, Martino has the chance to lead the team where it has never been before. Seven straight wins would be the best start ever for FC Barcelona.

First team and Barça B train together | FC Barcelona
The FC Barcelona players trained on Thursday for the first time since the impressive 4-1 win against Real Sociedad. The venue was pitch 1 at the Ciutat Esportiva de Sant Joan Despí, where they were joined by the Barça B squad and U18 and U17 players Roger Riera, Julen Arellano, Dani Segura and Adrià Vilanova, son of Tito, the former first team manager. Carles Puyol was also present.

Andrés Iniesta has told a press conference about the negotiations for his new contract and reckons things are all going to plan. "I have said many times that my aim is to retire here and the club wants the same" he said. "We all want to reach an agreement." The 29-year-old added that "there is no place like this."

The Spanish national police force found itself inundated with crime notifications Wednesday night when roughly 120 thoroughly peeved Elche fans contacted the Policia Nacional's official Twitter feed to report the "robbery" that had just taken place in front of their very eyes at the Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero.

Jeremy Perbet fired the hosts into a first-minute lead and Jonathan Pereira doubled that midway through the second half. Sergio Garcia grabbed one back for Espanyol but they could not find an equaliser as they slipped to their first defeat of the season.

Getafe 2-0 Celta Vigo | ESPNFC.com
Getafe leapfrogged their opponents as they beat Celta Vigo 2-0 in the Primera Division on Thursday night. Lisandro Lopez and Alvaro Arroyo scored in a six-minute spell either side of half time as the home side moved a point clear of their visitors in the table. Celta have now gone four games without a win and remain with just a single victory this term.
