Barcelona deny Eric Abidal 'not paid' claims - ESPN FC
Abidal was reported as being angry with Barca for not paying him while he was absent, but a blaugrana source told AS the Camp Nou outfit had met all their responsibilities. "Eric Abidal was paid in full under his contract and on time," the source said. "Barça have been up to date at all moments, paying all the instalments. A part came from the medical insurers, although this part was very small."

Casillas drew level with former Germany midfielder Lothar Matthaeus in 12th place on the all-time list, while Xavi climbed to second on Spain's appearances ranking above former keeper Andoni Zubizarreta.

Chile, featuring Barça's Alexis Sánchez in the starting line up, beat Venezuela 3-0 in their latest Word Cup qualifier. Sanchez was very active throughout, creating most of the team's chances, with Mauricio, though it was Eduardo Vargas and Marcos González in the first half and Arturo Vidal with five minutes left, who got the goals.
