La Liga: FC Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid: Predict the Score

A chance to predict the score of tonight's La Liga clash between FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid

David Ramos

Fun fact #1: Atletico Madrid haven't won in their last four matches against sides fro Catalunya.

Fun fact #2: Atletico Madrid haven't won in each of their last eight matches against FC Barcelona.

So, does FC Barcelona have any reason to be fearful of their trip to the Vicente Calderon? While Diego Simeone's side has kept pace at the top of La Liga, there are reasons to suggest that their points-grabbing pace is showing signs of slowing. A midweek draw in the Copa del Rey against Valencia, narrow wins over mid-table Levante and Malaga -- even their defense, statistically the best in the league, has been faltering. Shipping two goals against Levante -- at home -- is hardly encouraging with the Blaugrana set to visit.

The league leaders were also nullified by Villarreal CF just a few months ago. While Atleti escaped El Madrigal with a share of the points, they were fortunate to do so having struggled to impose themselves against Villarreal's possession-based philosophy.

And who can forget the stunning loss against Espanyol in October?

Of course, Barcelona have to respect Atletico Madrid's achievements thus far this season, but there is no reason to feel overawed, nor is there any reason to buy into the media hype surrounding Simeone's team. Tough to beat? Without a question. Unbeatable? There is no such thing.
