Barcelona squad named for Catalunya Super Cup

New, comments

Coach Luis Enrique has selected 20 players, seven from Barça B, to form the squad that is going to play Espanyol for the Catalunya Super Cup.

Barcelona have a title match in front of them today. It's not the biggest of title matches, but hey, I'd like to win a title after losing to Madrid in El Clásico.

Anyway, Barça plays Espanyol in the new Catalunya Super Cup, a trophy added to the already traditional Catalunya Cup. It's the biggest Catalan derby, and it's always nice to beat Espanyol. For this year's edition, the opponents urged the Blaugrana to use at least a few first team players. They vowed not to participate unless Barça used first team players, not the Barça B squad that participated in the last few editions.

Coach Luis Enrique has answered the call, selecting thirteen first team players for the game. Only seven B-teamers are named for the squad, a considerable change compared to the previous selections.

Because it's not exactly a huge game, Enrique decided to rest the most important players from the usual starting eleven. Claudio Bravo, Javier Mascherano, Dani Alves, Sergio Busquets, Neymar and Messi have been awarded a day off. Andrés Iniesta, Douglas and Thomas Vermaelen are nursing injuries, and also out of the game.

These are the twenty players called up by Lucho:

Goalkeepers: Ter Stegen, Jordi Masip

Defenders: Martín Montoya, Gerard Piqué, Marc Bartra, Edgar Ié, Adriano, Jordi Alba, Grimaldo

Midfielders: Sergi Samper, Sergi Roberto, Xavi, Ivan Rakitic, Alen Halilovic, Rafinha Alcântara

Forwards: Pedro, Munir El-Haddadi, Luis Suárez, Adama Traoré, Sandro Ramírez

Expected Starting Lineup (4-3-3):

Masip; Montoya, Bartra, Ié, Adriano; Samper, Rakitic, Halilovic; Rafinha, Suárez, Munir

The game starts at 21:30 CET, and you can follow all the action right here, at BB. Visca el Barça!
