FC Barcelona News: 14 June 2014; Alexis Sanchez Shines in Chile Win, Spain Demolished by Netherlands

Alexis leads Chile to victory over Australia (3-1) | FC Barcelona
Chile took on Australia this evening in Cuiabá in their opening match of the 2014 World Cup. Alexis Sánchez was in the starting line-up and led his team to victory. The FC Barcelona forward scored the opener and gave an assist in Chile’s 3-1 victory over Australia.

Spain concede five in World Cup opener against the Netherlands (1-5) | FC Barcelona
Spain kicked off its bid to defend their World Cup title this Friday in a rematch of the 2010 World Cup final against the Netherlands. Spain, with five Barça players in the starting line-up – Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Piqué and Jordi Alba –, took the early lead through a penalty taken by Xabi Alonso, but the Netherlands rallied to claim the three points thanks to goals from Van Persie (2), Robben (2) and De Vrij.

Song's Cameroon are defeated by Mexico (1-0) | FC Barcelona
The second match of the World Cup saw former Barça players Rafa Márquez, Samuel Eto’o and Gio Dos Santos on the pitch in addition to FC Barcelona midfielder Alex Song. Cameroon ceded the initiative of the match to Mexico, but the Mexicans struggled to create goalscoring chances. It should be noted that Dos Santos scored two goals, but they were both called back. Both goals appeared to be legal.

FC Barcelona to face OGC Nice on August 2 | FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona will play OGC Nice, also known as Olympique Nice, on Saturday 2 August in the second preseason friendly to be confirmed. The venue will be the recently completed Allianz Riviera with the capacity for 35,624 spectators.
