Trailer for 'Messi: the Movie' Released

The documentary/drama will tell all of Messi's story, from the beginning to the superstardom

Clive Rose

When you're the greatest player on Earth, you need a movie. Lionel Messi has got his.

The trailer for 'Messi' has been released on Thursday. The documentary/drama will tell all of Messi's story. From his beginning in Argentina, to his disease, how Barcelona brought him to La Masía, how he conquered the Barça young teams, to his debut, to star status, to superstar status.

The movie also covers the difficult times Lio has had playing for the Argentina national team. He always dreamed of doing it, but was always compared to Argentina's biggest idol, Diego Maradona, and always faced extreme criticism -- most people even criticized him for not singing the national anthem. At the 2010 World Cup, Messi played as the team's leader, with Diego Maradona as his coach, and that didn't went well.

Then, the film transitions to Messi's new coach, Alejandro Sabella, and how that change modified the entire course of Lio's journey in the national team. Messi became Argentina's undeniable and beloved star, and now he is about to play the World Cup final in Brazil, against the same Germany that defeated him four years ago, seeking redemption.

The documentary features interviews with the likes of Johan Cruyff, Javier Mascherano, Gerard Piqué, Andrés Iniesta and many others who were part of Messi's journey to greatness.

"Messi" is expected to be released this weekend. Here's a trailer. Enjoy:
