According to sources, the midfielder has ultimately decided to stay at FC Barcelona for one more year.

While a deal was drafted and Xavi was apparently very close to joining MLS side New York City FC, the Catalan has ultimately decided to stay in his hometown club.

After a reunion with coach Luis Enrique and club president Jose Maria Bartomeu, Xavi seems comfortable enough to stay - at least for one more year.

Ultimately, the deal for his transfer was not as complete as one thought. Xavi was to tell the club of his plans to move to the United States today, but possibly in part due to economic issues, he has changed his mind.

Luis Enrique left it clear he counted on Xavi in his project, and unless things were to change again, the midfielder will begin training with the team on Thursday.
