In a widely expected deal FC Barcelona broke ties with Mexican midfielder Jonathan dos Santos and shipped him to Villarreal CF where he will be reunited with his older brother Giovani. The transfer is believed to be valued at €2 million. Upon completing the medical examination Jonathan will sign a five-year contract.
Now 24, Jonathan joined Barcelona's La Masia ranks in 2002 as a 12-year old and quickly progressed through the youth ranks, especially impressing under Luis Enrique with Barcelona B in the Segunda División. Jonathan was officially promoted to the first team before the 2012-13 La Liga season, but his Barcelona career never really took off. He was the low man on the depth chart and on top of that he often struggled with injuries which included a torn ACL in October 2013 that ruled him out for six months.
Since his first team debut on 28 October 2009 in the Copa del Rey, Jonathan dos Santos appeared in 28 games in all competitions, failing to get on the scoreboard.
Good luck with the Yellow Submarine JdS!
