FC Barcelona have announced that Javier Mascherano will sign an improved and extended contract on Tuesday August 26 that will see him stay at the club until June 30, 2018. The first team goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, following persistent pain in his lower back caused by a blow received in training last Monday, August 11, has been subjected to new medical tests this morning which have revealed the existence of a small fracture  in the transverse apophysis of vertebra L3. The Club's Medical Services reported that the player will be out for between two and three weeks. The player will carry out recovery work during this period.

The new ‘MESSI’ movie directed by Álex de la Iglesia and produced by MEDIAPRO, is to be screened at the XXXV World Supporters Clubs Congress being held this weekend in Barcelona. Made in Argentina and Barcelona with a script by Jorge Valdano, it will be shown on Sunday afternoon at the Palau de Congressos de Barcelona, and will be introduced by Jordi Basté, one of the many people who appear in the film, which include Menotti, Maradona, Valdano and Cruyff.

Juan Cuadrado has been left out of the Fiorentina squad to face Real Madrid on Saturday, heightening speculation that he is set for a summer switch away from the Serie A club. La Viola are set to face the Spanish giants in a pre-season encounter in Warsaw, but the winger will not travel to Poland following his omission.

The Brazil international has been heavily linked with a move away from Camp Nou this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool both thought to be interested. Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado was expected to be his replacement, but the 31-year-old’s representative has insisted that he will remain in Catalonia for the upcoming campaign.

Liverpool are ‘hours away’ from completing the signing of former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song from Barcelona, according to reports in Spain. According to the respected Catalan newspaper Sport, the Reds have made an offer for Song, who has been told he can leave Barca this summer. The paper says the offer could be accepted within hours and while Galatasaray have also made a bid, a switch to Merseyside is the most obvious.
