The initial challenge for the Road to Berlin has been set, and FC Barcelona were drawn into Group F with Paris Saint-Germain FC, AFC Ajax and APOEL FC. In a draw dominated by Real Madrid legends drawing the teams from the pots, Barcelona were the fifth team drawn. Barça didn't have to wait long for their first opponent as PSG were the second team drawn from Pot 2.
From the third pot the team that has been heavily compared to Barcelona throughout the clubs' history, and vice versa, Ajax, was allocated group F. The last group of eight teams from pot 4 also presented some tough challenges, most notably AS Roma, but Barcelona were drawn with APOEL, who in the third qualifying round beat Barcelona's recent Finish opponents, HJK Helsinki.
All four teams in Group F were winners of their national leagues, but only APOEL needed to go through the qualifying round of the competition to win a place in the group stage. Apart from the aforementioned HJK, APOEL also defeated Danish representative AaB.
There are two clear favorites for the top two spots in the group, Barcelona and PSG, but APOEL and, especially, Ajax cannot be discounted, as teams that make it among the top 32 clubs in the competition have the ability to surprise anybody.
