It is safe to say that Saturday was a perfect afternoon for Sevilla. Not only did the team win its first La Liga match in over one month, it was against Barcelona for the first time since 2008, a victory that boosts the Rojiblancos' confidence moving forward. On top of that, it was the first ever victory against Barça in the career of the great Unai Emery.
And the Spanish manager was very proud of his players in his postgame press conference. He complimented his men for the intensity shown against the Blaugrana, along with the ability to convert the few chances they had to score to get a huge victory against a title favorite.
Here's more from Emery's presser:
"We have had a lot of opportunities in the other games, but we couldn't convert even though we tried. Everything went right today. We had opportunities, and we finally scored. We played together and put in the effort offensively and defensively, and intensity is the most part of our game. That's what we found today and that's why we won.
"Everyone played well, and it's okay to suffer against a team like Barcelona, but I think we deserved to win. It's a result that gives us a lot of confidence moving forward, and now there is a break to have better ideas, and hopefully it's the start of a good run.
"The Sevilla I want to see is an aggressive and intense team, and that's what happened today. We need our injured players back soon to maintain that level of play."
