Real Madrid booked their place in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 as they withstood a barrage of first-half Paris Saint-Germain attacks to claim a narrow Group A victory. The visitors took the initiative from the off and wonderful interplay down the right set the tone as Ángel Di María, back at the Santiago Bernabéu, fed the marauding Serge Aurier. Blaise Matuidi met the Ivorian's centre; Keylor Navas was equal to the midfielder's effort.

The French media agency reported the Real Madrid striker arrived at a police station near Paris early on Wednesday and was placed in detention. An investigation was opened in July into a suspected attempt to extort France international Valbuena, with police trying to determine the extent to which Benzema was aware of an intimate video which found its way into the hands of blackmailers.

The Atleti No9 raced onto Juanfran's pass before his outside-of-the-boot attempt bounced past the far post. It was the only opening for Torres who remains on 99 goals for his home-town club.

Atletico dominated possession throughout the game in Kazakhstan, and midfielders Koke and Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco hit the woodwork with attempted crosses as the visitors pressed at the end of each half.

Espanyol have announced that a Chinese company has bought more than 50 percent of the Spanish club's shares and will invest in the indebted team. In a statement Espanyol thanked Rastar Group President Chen Yansheng for the decision to "strengthen the club."

Barcelona's Halloween antics have angered Getafe president Angel Torres due to the mess left in the away changing room. A group of Barca players -- including Dani Alves, Gerard Pique and Neymar -- celebrated their side's 2-0 win at Getafe on Saturday night by immediately changing into fancy dress, and then mistakenly blundering into the media area as the Madrid side's Victor Rodriguez was speaking.
