After ending the '13-'14 campaign in turmoil without a trophy, FC Barcelona was determined to get back to their winning ways. In 2014-15 they looked to bounce back by acquiring new players, returning to their longstanding player map led by a new coach (and former player) and working with Gatorade and the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) to create personalized nutrition and fueling plans for each player.
The end result was a historic treble win documented in Gatorade's "Mes Que Un Triplet", a video that launches today on Gatorade's You Tube Channel. The film includes never before seen footage from Lionel Messi and takes fans on the journey through FC Barcelona's historic treble run during the 2014-'15 season. It also shows how Gatorade and GSSI helped fine tune the team's fueling plan during this time.
The Gatorade Sport Science Institute worked side-by-side with FC Barcelona's training staff to test the first-team by measuring sweat rates, sweat composition and to determine how individual players' burn fat vs. carbohydrate.
The film features some of the best FC Barcelona footballers - Gatorade athlete Lionel Messi as well as Gerard Piqué, Javier Mascherano, Ivan Rakitic and Luis Suárez. Also featured is former FC Barcelona player Juliano Belletti (narrator), FC Barcelona's Director of medicine, Dr. Daniel Medina, and the Director of GSSI, Dr. James Carter.
In addition to FC Barcelona's team reorganization, the in depth, unparalleled partnership between the best professional football club in the world and the world's leading sports fuel company proved successful as performance on the pitch increased and the team rose back to the top.
