Report: Barcelona Targeting Paris Saint-Germain Midfielder for 2016

The new Barcelona Football Area Technical Commission that replaces former sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has some pretty bold transfer goals for 2016.

We reported a few days ago that Juventus star Paul Pogba is a target for 2016, once the transfer ban is finally over. But the French youngster is a target of many European powerhouses who aren't banned from bringing new players, like Chelsea, Real Madrid and others.

One possible option for Pogba if that deal doesn't work is Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti, which is a viable option. According to sources, Verratti's buyout clause is €50 million, a relatively small amount when you consider his talent and potential.

Verratti is simply an animal at his position, a small, fierce defender who is just a nightmare for whoever he's marking. In addition to his defensive skills, the 22-year-old is a competent passer with great accuracy and sweet awareness of what's going on around him. Earlier this season, Verratti scored a surprising header against the Blaugrana when Barça and PSG first met in the Champions League.

PSG, as we learned last summer, is a ridiculously difficult club to negotiate with. The Blaugrana were ready to overpay for backup center-back Marquinhos, but the French champions simply did not want to talk.

It's likely that it will be as difficult to negotiate for Verratti, if not harder, but this is not Zubi anymore. The people negotiating will actually be good at what they're doing, so it's not crazy to think that we'll finally grab someone from PSG.
