UEFA Champions League: Round of 16 First Leg: Wednesday Open Thread

The second day of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 offers us two completely different matches in terms of appeal and competitiveness. After a somewhat boring Tuesday that saw two draws, we hope tonight's games are better.

The most important game involves Real Madrid. The Blancos travel to Germany to face Schalke 04, the same Round of 16 tie from last season. One year ago, the defending champions completely thrashed their opponents, winning 6-1 at Veltins Arena before finishing the confrontation at home.

This time around, Madrid is still the big favorite for the game, even though they're not in great form right now. Injuries and a painful 4-0 loss to Atlético Madrid two weeks ago raised some questions about how good this team really is when facing adversity. Carlo Ancelloti has to motivate his men through this tough time, but there's no reason to think Real will suffer against Schalke. Will likely be an easy, tie-deciding victory. Anyways, it's our responsability to say: GO SCHALKE!!!!

In Switzerland, Basel and Porto will face off in the Alternative Football El Clásico. For the ones who follow leagues that aren't in the spotlight, this is the game for you. Two exciting teams who like to attack and have some talented pieces. It's also a chance to see Barcelona's biggest transfer target, Porto right-back Danilo, going up against a tough team and a tough environment. Should be fun.

And you can use this thread to comment the games you're watching. Please keep the conversation light and fun. Enjoy the Champioooooooooooooooons!
