Eric Abidal, a beloved ex-Barca defender, spoke very highly of Luis Enrique's current squad to Spanish international news agency Efe.
Abidal was a prominent player during his spell at Camp Nou from 2007/2008 - 2012/2013. He won 15 trophies, while wearing the blaugrana shirt, and played a vital role in Pep Guardiola's treble winning side. With the utmost respect towards his former gaffer, Abidal said this about the current squad.
"I am aware of everything that Pep achieved at Barcelona, and he has achieved a lot at Bayern, but I feel that Barcelona are stronger than ever before," Abidal told Efe. "Barcelona appear to be in great shape. There are two important games coming up in the Champions League, but we have to focus on La Liga, too. The club know the Champions League very well and we have to go for it as always and work hard in order to try to reach the final."
Barca fans are excited at the prospect of another treble-winning season. Much of this success is due to the increasingly dangerous and entertaining play of Barca's front three. Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr. and Luis Suàrez have scored 102 goals during this campaign, breaking the previous mark of 99 goals set by Messi-Eto'o-Henry in 2008-2009, which also happened to be the last time that Barca won the treble (Coincidence?). This is what Abidal had to say about the dynamic trio.
"They understand each other very well on the pitch, which is the most important thing. It isn't easy to have stars and be able to always be on top form, but I think Barca are doing that very well at the moment."
Abidal believes that Luis Enrique's team is better than any other team to have come before. There are still several games left until the season ends, anything can happen. Winning the treble will most definitely settle any argument about whether this team will go down as the best ever. All us Barca fans can do is support our beloved team and hope that our dreams come true.
