How's your nerve? We're less than 12 hours away from kick-off of FC Barcelona's most important match of the season so far, arguably one of their toughest ever tests, as they prepare to welcome back Pep Guardiola for a UEFA Champions League semi-final first-leg against Bayern Munich at the Camp Nou. There is absolutely nothing to suggest that this will be an easy tie for the Blaugrana; far from it -- with Bayern currently experiencing something of an injury crisis, Barca are considered heavy favourites to win tonight and book their place in the final in Berlin.
But when Pep Guardiola is involved, can anything ever be that straight-forward?
We know better than anyone else that Pep Guardiola doesn't lose very often and when he does, his teams rarely lose by any more than two goals. And yet, here I was last night, predicting a 3-0 victory for the hosts, for FC Barcelona against Bayern Munich. What was I thinking?
Well, aside from being blinded by my usual optimism, there's little basis behind it; just a suspicion that Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar have something special up their sleeves. It could just as easily go the other way; Thomas Muller is probably one of the most intelligent forward players of his generation and even a half-chance falling his way could prove disastrous for Luis Enrique's side.
Perhaps we knew it before. Maybe we always have; but it's worth reiterating once more: FC Barcelona need to put together the perfect game to usurp Guardiola and Bayern. Is that something you think we might see tonight, or will Bayern pick up where they left off in 2013 and crush our dreams once again?
