Neymar Jr. is officially not returning to the Copa America.
The Brazilian Football Association, known as CBF, decided not to appeal the four-match ban handed out by the South American Federation, Conmebol, which condemned the national team skipper and Barcelona superstar to miss out on the rest of the competition, even if the Seleção somehow reaches the final.
Here's the official statement from CBF:
In a meeting held on Sunday night by Neymar and the coaching staff, it was decided that CBF will accept the decision by Conmebol, which suspended the player for four games and will cause him to miss the rest of Copa América.
The coaching staff and the player hope that Conmebol can be as rigorous in its punishments on every other competition it organizes.
Finally, the Seleção's coaching staff feels saddened by the loss of another very important player to the remainder of this competition.
Neymar has left Chile and will enjoy some vacation time until he returns to Barcelona duty. The Catalan giants will start pre-season preparations in mid-July.
