Barcelona captain Andrés Iniesta and long-time full-back Dani Alves were the chosen players to speak before the press ahead of the UEFA Super Cup matchup between the Blaugrana and Europa League champs Sevilla. And both are not taking the title for granted.
Recognizing the potential on the Seville side, both players complimented the opposition, and pointed out that the team needs to be at a high level to take the win home. Iniesta also talked about the "honor" of being the new main captain of the team, while the Brazilian called the encounter "special", since he was a Sevilla player for many years before joining the Catalan giants.
Here's a few highlights of their pre-match press conferences:
“We know each other very well, us and Sevilla and they have a great coach in Unai Emery.”
“Having Leo Messi in your side is almost a guarantee of success. We have enjoyed his talents for many years and I hope he can continue in the same vein.”
“Last season we got better and better, as it has to be when there have been changes. The team grew during the campaign and in the end we were successful. We have to keep growing.”
“I decided to stay at Barça and I did so with the same enthusiasm as always for winning.”
“It’s a shame that Neymar can’t play, but we have other good players to take his place.”
“It is always special playing against Sevilla, even though after so many games against them you get used to it.”
