Despite his worrying record from the spot, Lionel Messi will not stop taking the penalties.
Barcelona coach Luis Enrique spoke to the press on Tuesday to preview his team's next league game against Celta Vigo on Wednesday. He also answered questions regarding other topics, and one of them was related to Messi's missed spot kick against Levante last Sunday, which brought back to light his subpar performance as a penalty-kick taker, especially for his own brilliant standards.
Leo has only converted one of three PKs attempted this season in only five games, bringing his accuracy rate to below 80%, which is not something you would imagine when it comes to arguably the best player in the history of the sport. But despite those head-turning numbers, Enrique will not change his mind about who will keep shooting from the spot. It's Messi, end of argument.
"There’s no problem [with Messi]. He will continue to take the penalty kicks and that is that — he is the best."
If you say so, then that's it! No more discussion. Until the next one Messi misses, of course.
