Lionel Messi and Samuel Umtiti are back on the training pitch and remain on schedule to make their Barcelona return from injuries, according to reports in Spain.
Diario Sport says the two players underwent a light training session on Monday, running on the pitch with supervision from the Blaugrana fitness coach. According to the report Messi and Umtiti did well in the activity, didn't have any setbacks and will increase the intensity over the next few days. The plan is for them to be completely fit to train with the full squad once the internationals return, and they will be available for the next Barça match, at home against Deportivo La Coruña.
Also according to Sport, Umtiti will start the game against Depor to give teammate Javier Mascherano a chance to rest for the UEFA Champions League match against Manchester City four days later. Messi will also be on the pitch against Depor, but is expected to play only 20-30 minutes in order to be fully fit and healthy to face Pep Guardiola's side.
Umtiti sprained a ligament in his left knee while Messi hurt his groin against Atlético Madrid. Both were given the same timetable to return (three weeks), and they will be ready to come back after the international break.
