The world's best team might be headed to the United States next summer.
According to a report from World Soccer Talk, FC Barcelona have been invited by Major League Soccer to take part in the 2017 MLS All-Star Game, which will take place in July of next year. If the Blaugrana do accept the invitation, the game will be played at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.
The Catalan club is yet to decide where they'll be headed on their next preseason tour. The two main options are Asia and North America for the International Champions Cup, and if they decide to go to Asia, they wouldn't play the All-Star Game next year, but would be a lock for the 2018 edition.
Barça have never played the MLS All-Star Game, which began in 1996 but gained popularity in 2005 when the first Premier League club, Fulham, visited America to face the best players in MLS. English teams have dominated the invitations and Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea have all played it, with clubs like Bayern Munich and AS Roma also taking part in recent years. None is bigger than Barcelona, though, and the All-Star Game will be a huge occasion once the Blaugrana are the invited club.
That will happen, we just need to know if it's next year or the year after.
