After Koke's role in a new more attacking Atletico approach had been a big pregame subject of debate, the Spain international was to the fore for the wrong reasons as Madrid eased to victory thanks to a complete team performance and Cristiano Ronaldo's hat trick.

Athletic Bilbao end Villarreal's unbeaten run - ESPN
Athletic Bilbao moved within two points of fourth-placed Villarreal in LaLiga as Raul Garcia's goal midway through the second half proved the difference at San Mames. Villarreal had only lost one of their previous 11 league games but slipped to a 1-0 defeat in Bilbao, and arguably the home side could have had more, with Inaki Williams hitting a post minutes before Garcia struck from close range.

Gerard Moreno header secures win for Espanyol at Alaves - ESPN
Espanyol extended their unbeaten run to six matches after they snatched a 1-0 victory in a fiery game with Alaves. Seven yellow cards were shown in a cagey LaLiga clash which looked to be heading for a draw after Fernando Pacheco saved a late penalty from Gerard Moreno.

Inigo Martinez's free-kick highlights Real Sociedad's win at Sporting Gijon - ESPN
Xabi Prieto put the visitors in front but Sporting went in level at the break through Duje Cop's strike. David Zurutuza restored Real's lead before Martinez stole the show with a wickedly curling left-foot shot which gave Sporting goalkeeper Pichu Cuellar no chance.

Valencia 1-1 Granada - ESPN
Nani rescued a 1-1 draw for Valencia and denied rock-bottom Granada a first La Liga win of the season. Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez fired the visitors in front before half-time, but Portugal star Nani struck immediately after the break. Granada started brightly and Valencia keeper Diego Alves made two early saves to deny the lively Carcela-Gonzalez.
